Wow—moving from California clear across the United States to Tennessee was no small feat. But once I committed to the move, I put every piece into place with intention, speed, and a whole lot of determination.
At the time, I owned a home in San Francisco that had been occupied by a tenant. When the tenant moved out, I had just six days to flip the property before putting it on the market. Unfortunately, the home was left in an undesirable condition—so those six days mattered.
I immediately hired painting contractors, electricians, finish carpenters, and landscapers. Every trade was scheduled back-to-back. When my Realtor and I first walked the property, he was very leery. He looked at me and said, “This is not going to be ready.”
I told him, “Start the marketing materials—I will have it ready.”
And I did.
Within six days, the home was completely market-ready. We listed it, and within just a couple of days, I received multiple offers.
That was only the first part of the relocation.
Relocating isn’t just about deciding to move—it’s about executing hundreds of moving pieces. You have to pack an entire life, notify the post office, order boxes, coordinate movers, separate what goes with you and what gets stored, and plan for timing on both ends of the move.
In my case, I didn’t have a home to move into immediately in Tennessee. I used storage containers to hold everything safely until my new home was ready. Then I hired movers again—this time on the destination side—to complete the process.
Relocating across the country requires:
- Strategic planning
- Trusted professionals
- Clear timelines
- Backup plans
- And someone who understands the entire process—not just the real estate side
I’ve lived it. I’ve done it. And I help others do it every day.
